SuperFreakonomics

SuperFreakonomics: Global Cooling, Patriotic Prostitutes, and Why Suicide Bombers Should Buy Life Insurance is a book written by an economist Steven Lettiv and a journalist Stephen J. Dubner. It's a sequel to "Freakonomics".

First of all, I'd like to explain "freakonomics"; it's a made up word of "freak" and "economics". I found it very attractive while I was trying to find some books related to economics over the spring break. I thought this book might give me an easy-to-understand introduction about economics, BUT I was wrong. There is a very big difference between the theme of this book and the general economics.

Levitt is a very lovely economist; he doesn't use the complicated theory model which most people can't understand to solve the problem. He finds out the common mistakes in daily issues, and explains them with his simple concept of economics.

This book totally challenges the conventional ideas on certain issue, so highly recommended! :)
I'm almost half way through the book, and perhaps I'd like to read "Freakonomics" as well. Let's hope that I could finish reading it during the golden week.

Oh, and here is a short introduction about the book, enjoy it!

  1. This is a interesting way to connect the economy to a wide range of answers from not well known questions. I looked up "SuperFreakonomics" after I saw this and this book also looks at problems not just concerning about the economics but also to the outside of the field of economics. Thanks for sharing because this intriguing to read more of this and learn something more about the economy.

  2. Thanks for posting this Sonia. There are some interesting ideas presented in the video. I noticed there was a URL for website at the end of the video. It would have been useful to include such a link for visitors to your blog to be able to track down more Freakenomics information if they are so interested.

I was surprised to find that one of your classmates also blogged about one of the Freakenomics' authors: Steven Levitt. He has a link to a TED talk entitled Crackenomics on his blog.

This is one of the reasons I enjoy teaching a course such as this. I get to learn about new and interesting ideas that I would have otherwise probably not have come across. Thank you.

  3. Hi KazH.!

This is the reason why I like this book...because usually reading books about real economy would make me sleepy....:)

    Hi Professor!
Thanks for your advice. I didn't notice the URL at the end of the video until you mentioned it...I'll link it in my post. Thank you!
